HOW TO GET STARTED

HOW DOES PROTEST WORK?

Understanding the history and patterns of protest against authoritarian governments will build a foundation for your involvement. Below is the best explanation we've seen. It is a 14 minute video, "The Four Phases of Authoritarian Government Resistance".

CAN I MAKE A DIFFERENCE?

Yes. Most activists/protestors are just like you, individuals with no experience in this arena. Your personal participation adds a voice that will be heard by your community and leaders, both Democrat and Republican. You will be heard when it seems there is no other way to be heard.

WHERE DO I BEGIN?

The Activist/Protest organizations in the Rochester region are grassroots, meaning they have been started and are run by ordinary citizens like you. In some cases, they are part of regional or national volunteer groups.

There are multiple groups operating in the Rochester region. They all operate independently from each other, with separate websites, social media, and event schedules. This can be confusing to a new person deciding where to get started. We are one of those groups.

You do not need to join a group to be effective. If you right click on "List of Local Scheduled Events", you will see every scheduled event in the region, and choose what is best for you. It is organized by What, Who, Where and When. In most cases you can just show up, and you will be very welcome.

If you can't make it to an actual protest, there are other ways to contribute. "
Protest From Home Options" provides links for Phone Calls to Politicians, Postcard Outreach (surprisingly effective). Voter Registration and Turnout and Companies to Boycott. All of these work.
